14 car pile-up sends one to hospital and closes Highway eighty eight for three hours

A series of five collisions occurred on Highway eighty eight on the morning of Saturday, February 6, two thousand sixteen near the Kirkwood Inn, injuring two and sending one to the hospital.
The collisions were caused by numerous drivers traveling at unsafe speeds for the conditions and following too close to other vehicles according to the California Highway Patrol.
“Slow and Sustained Wins the Race couldn’t be more true this Saturday morning,” the South Lake Tahoe office of the California Highway Patrol said in a statement. “You can’t be the very first on the mountain if you don’t make it there.”
14 vehicles were involved in the accidents which occurred around 9:15 a.m. on a open up of Highway eighty eight inbetween the Kirkwood Inn and Caples Lakes known as “Icebox” over a brief period of time.
The cars ended up with minor to major vehicular harm. Two of the involved parties received minor injuries with only one of those parties requiring medical transport to a local hospital.
Highway eighty eight was closed until 12:11 p.m. to clear out the area. Numerous tow companies from South Lake Tahoe and Amador County were needed to separate the numerous roll-over vehicles that fused together during the incident.
