Columbine Middle School field will be flooded with classic cars and much more June six and 7.
Black Canyon Classics is holding its annual car, truck and rod demonstrate. Now in its 19th year, this year’s featured class will be the Ford Mustang, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
President Shane Brown said the club’s original twenty five members met at the Lion’s Clubhouse to share their love of old muscle and classic cars. The very first demonstrate was at Baldridge Park, where one hundred cars displayed up. He noted the club’s largest showcase included three hundred ten cars and last year’s showcase had inbetween two hundred five and 210.
“We’re expecting two hundred twenty or so this year,” Brown said. “We’ve always averaged right around 200.”
Brown noted the demonstrate is free to those coming to love looking at classic cars, but there is a fee for entrants. However, he said the club does not keep any of the money made from the showcase. Since 1996, Black Canyon Classics has donated all of the proceeds to local charitable organizations and awarded scholarships to local students. To date, the club has given almost $50,000 to charity and $Nineteen,500 in scholarships.
This year, Brown said $1,500 will go to the scholarship and the rest will be donated to the Montrose/Olathe Special Olympics. Brown said of the six different charities that introduced to be selected as the recipient of the funds, the club voted unanimously to donate to Special Olympics.
Charities the club has given to in the past include Montrose Medical Mission, Welcome Home Montrose, Sharing Ministries and Christ’s Kitchen.
