The pursue began around 8:25 a.m. at about 14th and Monroe in Kansas City. Police said the car was stolen Monday in a carjacking.
From there, the driver got onto eastbound Interstate seventy and then south on I-435.
The driver headed into the Ruskin Heights neighborhood, speeding down visibly icy roads and dodging traffic.
A female passenger got out of the car at 8:55 a.m. when the car slowed down on Blue Ridge Boulevard at Blue Sea. She was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries that were reportedly not related to the pursue.
By 9:15 a.m., the driver had gone through several neighborhoods, through the backyard of several homes and into Leawood, Kansas.
Moments later, after spinning out and almost colliding with a parked van, the driver stopped in the parking lot outside the McDonald’s near 135th and State Line Road. He got out of the car and ran into the restaurant.
Several police officers followed closely behind him into the restaurant. Employees could be seen running from the back door out of the McDonald’s.
After about a minute, the suspect was seen being escorted by police out of the restaurant in handcuffs. Authorities say there were about ten to twenty customers inwards at the time and the suspect ran past them to the counter, where he was arrested by pursuing officers.
Prosecutors have charged James E. Horne Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri with second-degree robbery and resisting an arrest in connection to the pursue. Horne was just released from prison one hundred twenty days ago.
