Flamy Chino three-car crash kills five
CHINO >> Two of the five people killed in a flamy three-car wreck late Friday night have been identified but police said the other three victims were so badly burned that authorities still have not been able to identify even their age or gender.
The Coroner`s Office of the San Bernardino Sheriff`s Department said late Saturday night that one victim has been identified as Mira Loma residence Andrew Anthony Deleon, Nineteen.
The other victim was identified as Luis Ayala Mendoza, 47, of Corona. The coroner did not say whether he was the foot occupant of the two thousand thirteen Honda Accord, one of the two other cars involved in the crash.
The names of the other three involved in crash will be released to the public when identity is established and the families are notified, Coroner officials said.
«We don`t know the cause or any factors that contributed to the incident» yet, Chino police spokeswoman Monica Gutierrez said Saturday.
The crash took place about 8:46 p.m. on Pine Avenue inbetween Mill Creek Ave. and Chino Corona Road. The site is just north of the California Institution for Women, with farmland to the east and the Meadow Square Apartments to the west. Pine Avenue was closed for much of Saturday morning as authorities cleared away the wreckage and began their investigation.
Four of the dead were railing in a two thousand Chevrolet extended-cab pickup trucks, Gutierrez said, and the fifth was the lone occupant of the two thousand thirteen Honda Accord. The driver of the third vehicle, a two thousand two Honda Civic, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released at the scene.
Pine Avenue is not known to the police as a venue popular for racing, Gutierrez said, and factors contributing to the collision could not yet be determined.
The incident was one of two deadly crashes that each claimed five lives in Southern California in less than twenty four hours: A crash after two a.m. Saturday in Irvine also killed five people.
These two deadly accidents come only two weeks after four friends – two from Chino High School and two from Valley View High School in Ontario – were in a Dodge Durango when the vehicle`s driver, Edward Rubio, 16, lost control of the SUV, which then went through a center median and crashed into a concrete wall before striking a traffic pole north of the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Grove Avenue in Ontario around Ten:30 p.m. on Sept. Nineteen.
Rubio, who was driving without a license, according to police, and his friend Jeremy Torres, Eighteen, escaped with non-life menacing injuries, but two others in the car – Valerie Zavala and Julie Salas, both sixteen – were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities said Zavala was thrown from the car while Salas was trapped inwards the searing vehicle.
Rubio and Torres managed to escape from the SUV.
Ontario police Detective Bill Russell said the investigation into what caused the Sept. Nineteen crash will take several weeks.
«We`re looking at thirty to forty five days before they can file a case,» Russell said «They can take very likely a month and a half before sending it to the District Attorney`s Office. Once we send it to the district attorney, he has to review to case to determine whether charges will be filed.»
Police have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, but said they suspect excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
