Raiders edge rusher Aldon Smith was reportedly involved in another run-in with the law Thursday morning.
Smith was detained by police in San Francisco for public intoxication, according to KTVU, and is expected to released when he is sober. No charges are expected.
The suspended Raiders edge rusher was alledgedly one of two masculine passengers in a vehicle that crashed into an undercover police car near police headquarters around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Three police officers were in the car, and two were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver, a female, was detained on suspicion of DUI.
Smith denied invovlement in the incident when confronted by reporters after being released onto the San Francisco streets.
“I didn’t do anything,” Smith told reporters. “I had to go treat something and talk to somebody, a friend who is locked up in there. That’s what I went to go do.”
Later in the interview Smith said his gf was driving the SUV invovled in the incident.
Smith has been banished by the NFL on Nov. 15, two thousand fifteen as a repeat offender of the league’s substance manhandle policy. He was eligible to come back a calendar year later, but his reinstatement application was tabled despite a meeting inbetween Smith, commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL officials. The NFL Network reported last month that Smith’s case would be re-evaluated on March 15, and the pass rusher had a real shot to comeback if he followed a correct path.
This latest incident and subsequent interview certainly won’t help his case. Goodell is not required to rule on Smith’s application on any set date. His banishement is technically indefinite.

The Raiders roster was cut to fifty three players on Saturday. They’ll add ten guys to the organization commencing Sunday, when they construct a practice squad. Most of them will be familiar, with guys who spent the summer in silver and black.
The Raiders hoped to add offensive lineman Ian Silberman to the group – position coach Mike Tice loved him — but he was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts. Every other Raiders waived went unclaimed, leaving options when forming a practice squad.
Here’s a running list of players signed:
Five:32 p.m.: Rookie guard Jordan Simmons was signed to the practice squad, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area.

Five:29 p.m.: Rookie taut end Pharoah Brown has been signed to the practice squad, according to The Athletic.
Ten:32 a.m.: Defensive end Fadol Brown was added to the reserve unit, per SB Nation. He was hurt most of camp, but has NFL size and athleticism. Developmental prospect could contribute down the road.

2017 Raiders Draft Class
The Raiders trimmed their 90-man roster to fifty three on Saturday.
They did not finalize it for the regular-season opener.
Upgrades will be sought. It’s also presently imbalanced, with a few moves remaining to reach positional homeostasis.
Primary objective: They need linebackers, stat.
A trio of possible contributors vanished on Saturday morning. Shilique Calhoun and LaTroy Lewis were let go. Jelani Jenkins was placed on season-ending injured reserve, with an injury settlement likely coming. More linebackers are likely on the way, off the edge or inwards.
There are four inwards linebackers presently on the roster. Three of them don’t have a defensive begin to their credit. Again, additions are expected.
They also kept ten offensive linemen. Temporarily, at least. Denver Kirkland made the roster but will be moved to injured reserve posthaste, providing the team an option to bring him back.
Calhoun’s draft status made him a surprise cut. Last year’s third-round pick didn’t flash in his 2nd training camp and never seemed comfy at strongside linebacker. A traditional defensive end in college, Calhoun struggled to make an influence in his brief time as a Raider. Lewis, an undrafted free agent from Tennessee, outshined Calhoun during the preseason, but he was also let go.
Jenkins, Reggie McKenzie’s only defensive free agent signing, and the only experienced inwards linebacker, is done for the year after getting hurt a preseason loss to Dallas.
The Raiders have solid numbers in the secondary, with five safeties and six cornerbacks. They’re still looking for an upgrade, especially in the cornerback corps. If they find something suitable, that group could be in flux.
Keith McGill was given a roster spot while recovering from foot surgery, but could get the Kirkland treatment and get placed on IR with a chance to comeback.
Here are some observations on the fifty three boys presently on the Raiders roster:
— Bravo to Nicholas Morrow, an undrafted linebacker from Division III Greenville College, for making the roster. The speedy hybrid player fits well as a dime linebacker the Raiders plan to regularly use. He came on late in camp, surged onto the very first team and played well in a spread of preseason games. He earned a spot, and certainly hopes to keep it during this period of roster flux.
Morrow is the only undrafted player to make the initial 53-man roster, tho’ that could switch in coming days.
— Johnny Holton staved off challenges from Jaydon Mickens, K.J. Brent and Keon Hatcher to earn the final receiver spot. He proved a quality special teams contributor and an improved route runner with fine speed. He’ll proceed to develop as an offensive threat while helping right away in kick coverage.
— The Raiders didn’t want to expose Jylan Ware to waivers and kept him on the roster. He remains a project, but the seventh-round pick has fine athleticism and the team likes his potential. He’ll be regularly inactive, especially early in the year.
— The offensive line is talented and deep. They have starlets in the commencing lineup and versatile depth in reserve inwards and out. Jon Feliciano and Vadal Alexander should be the very first few off the bench.
