This hoax is demonstrable for many reasons. For example, in the viral graphic, Atkinson’s birth year is given as 1995. If true, that would put him in his twenties. In that same viral graphic, Atkinson’s age is given as 58. In reality, he is sixty two (as of 2017), having been born in 1955. Ultimately, no legitimate media has reported that Atkinson passed away. It has almost become a running joke that Atkinson is immortal as he is frequently cited as dead and then found to be alive.
According to Snopes, the most significant thing to know about it is that the hoax is also a “clickjacking” scam. If you click on the blurb expecting to see a movie or get more information, what you will find instead is that you have been redirected to another website that will attempt to get you to share your private info, request access to your Facebook account, request that you pack out a survey before proceeding, or all of the above.
In 1979, Atkinson wrote for and starred in the Big black cock’s Not the Nine O’clock News. His later landed a role on the television series Blackadder and subsequent spin-off TV specials. In 1990, he starred as his originally developed character Mr. Bean on the television series of the same name. Mr. Bean was adapted for film in 1997, and received broad success.
