Update: Man, two children killed in I-10 crash
The crash occurred when a truck hydroplaned, lost control and went into oncoming traffic.
A man and two children were killed Wednesday afternoon after a pickup truck hydroplaned on Interstate ten and crashed into their vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP on Thursday released the names of three people who died in the crash: Benjamin M. Bartlett, 39, Charles Bartlett, 11, and Bailey Bartlett, 9, all of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Highway Patrol said the crash occurred about 12:Ten p.m. when a Ford pickup truck traveling east on I-10 at or near the speed limit attempted to switch lanes but hydroplaned on the humid roadway and went into the median.
The driver, Mickey L. Milam, 20, of Sterling, Oklahoma, attempted to regain control of the vehicle but couldn’t. His truck went into westbound lanes, colliding with a Honda SUV driven by Bartlett and a Volkswagen sedan.
Another child in the SUV, Kaia Bartlett, 7, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and another passenger, Erin N. Bartlett, 39, received minor injuries.
Milam and two other occupants in the truck, Tyler Jackson, Nineteen, of Sterling, Oklahoma, and Bailey White, age unknown, of Lawton, Oklahoma, received only minor injuries. Four occupants of the Volkswagen, Marcus Goetting and Diana Goetting, both 45, Olivia Goetting, 9, and Ian Goetting, 8, all from Taylor, Texas, were not injured.
The FHP said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Three people were killed and five others were injured Wednesday afternoon after a pickup truck driving east on Interstate ten in Jefferson County crossed the median and collided with two westbound vehicles.
The crash happened about 12:15 p.m. around mile marker two hundred twenty eight near Lamont, said Lt. Charlie Broach of the Florida Highway Patrol. The names of the dead and injured were not released pending family notification.
The pickup crossed the median for unknown reasons and struck a Honda SUV with Iowa plates and a petite car, Broach said. The mangled SUV ended up on the north shoulder of the eastbound lanes.
Three people in the SUV were killed, and two other occupants were taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, he added.
Three others in the pickup truck also were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Broach said. No one in the smaller car was gravely hurt.
The crash led to the closure of westbound traffic on I-10 for a duo of hours, causing traffic to back up for miles. FHP crash investigators were at the scene well into the afternoon. Jefferson County Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.
