Two Killed In Crash On Murfreesboro Pike In Antioch

Two people were killed in a four-car crash on Murfreesboro Pike in Antioch. Two others were injured in the wreck.

ANTIOCH, Tenn. – Two people were killed in a four-car crash on Murfreesboro Pike in Antioch. Two others were injured in the wreck.

The incident was reported just after seven a.m. Tuesday on Murfreesboro Pike near Mountain Springs Drive.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said a Nissan 370Z being driven by a 16-year-old was traveling outbound with a female passenger at a very high-rate of speed when it veered into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting a GMC Terrain SUV pulling into traffic.

The Nissan then clipped the GMC and traveled into the oncoming lanes of Murfreesboro Pike before hitting a Chevrolet Camaro and a Toyota Corolla head-on.

The driver of the Toyota, 44-year-old Miguel A. Lopez Rodriguez was killed at the scene. His wifey, 44-year-old Ana L. Nieto, forty four received non-life menacing injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

After colliding with the Toyota, the Nissan skidded uphill for one hundred ninety three feet where it eventually stopped and burst into flames.

A passerby was able to pull the driver from the searing car; however, he or she was not able to rescue the passenger. Officials said she was burned beyond recognition.

She is presumed to be a 16-year-old Antioch High School student.

Sky five flew over the scene shortly after influence and demonstrated the Nissan on fire in the middle of the road. Another car with extensive front-end harm was seen on the side of the road.

Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron said the 16-year-old driver was interviewed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The teenager was likely headed to Antioch High School, where he is a student, at the time of the crash.

The teenage was being treated for non-critical injuries.

Metro Nashville Public School officials released the following statement:

One of the individuals involved in the deadly accident on Murfreesboro Pike this morning is an Antioch High School student. He was severely injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. At this time we cannot confirm whether other MNPS students were involved. Metro Schools is maintaining communication with MNPD. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Metro Schools crisis response teams were at Antioch High School this morning to speak with students and staff who may need support and will be on site as long as needed.

According to police, the driver will be charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
